Wheelchairs

REMEMBER...

• Always be considerate to wheelchair users
when you are out and about.

• Make sure disabled people get the help
they need to find their way out of
buildings in emergencies such as fires.

Not all disabilities are so obviously connected with the
five senses, sometimes people have difficulty getting
about and that means they have to use a wheelchair.
To get an idea of the problems this can cause, think
how difficult it would be to move around your school
whilst sitting in your chair.

Maybe you would not be able to get through some of
the narrow passageways, maybe you would not be
able to see over the counter in the dining room or
maybe you would have difficulty getting through
doorways.

These days people are more considerate when
designing buildings. They think about wheelchair users
when drawing their plans.

The picture opposite shows a room that has
not been designed for wheelchair users.
