The following information about reflective materials is
available from all local road safety offices.
MATERIAL DAYLIGHT DARK PLACE TORCHLIGHT
When you are out in the daytime or when it is dark it
is really important that traffic can see you. In the
daytime flourescent material reacts with the ultra
violet light in sunlight making the colours very bright
so that you can be easily seen. At night (or when it is
dark/dull) you need to wear something reflective,
which will shine very brightly when the light from car
headlights is reflected back to the driver. Shiny
Some materials are better at reflecting light than
others. Ask your teacher for some samples of shiny, Matt
matt, reflective and fluorescent materials.
Now look at these materials: in bright
Reflective
sunlight, in a dark place and under a
torchlight.
Fill in the results of what you see in the Fluorescent
table opposite.
