ANTI-BULLYING WEEK 2009 (16th-20th November)
Bullying hurts and children and young people should not have to endure it. If you know or suspect a victim, or perpetrator, there are many things that can be done to make their lives easier. We aim, with your support, to provide pupils and their families with a simple but effective solution to a problem that often goes unreported but results in many people taking their own lives.
To support Anti-Bullying Week The Foundation is encouraging its supports to display a poster that provides useful links for bullying victims and perpretrators.
In 2007 a report published by the NSPCC stated that 42% of the 1,700 children surveyed said they had been victims of violence at school and 75% had been bullied at school. The introduction of mobile, internet and wireless technologies has increased the opportunities for misuse through 'cyber bullying'. Unlike other forms of bullying 'cyber bullying' follows children into their private spaces and outside of traditional school hours.
Every effort must be made to educate children and young people about new technologies as they can browse the internet, or use their mobiles safely, aware of the consequences of misuse. We would encourage School staff, parents and children to be vigilant and work together to prevent this form of bullying and tackle it wherever it appears.
